Tribal Epidemiology Center:
Tribal Needs Assessment Survey

The TEC developed a Tribal Needs Assessment for health directors and health care providers.  The online survey will allow health directors to prioritize a list of health concerns, as well as describe what health initiatives they would like to see in their community.  The goal of the survey is to create a top 10 list of health concerns for each tribe and region to provide the TEC with information that will help guide future grant applications and partnerships.  The TEC will have a better understanding of which tribes are interested in projects for different health topics.  Also, the survey will gather information on what types of technical assistance or support the tribes would want to receive from the Health Board and TEC.

Tribal Health Assessment Survey Development

The Tribal Health Assessment Survey instrument has been developed and covers topics ranging from education, employment, water, transportation, general and behavioral health, and resource utilization.  The survey has a total of 150 questions that tribes may choose from to create an individualized survey that focuses on the data that they are interested in collecting.  The Epi Center was working with two tribes and an urban clinic to plan the implementation of the assessment tool.  The survey is adapted to gather the data requested by each tribe individually.  The Tribal Needs Assessment Survey can be implemented in a small clinic setting as well as a community setting.  The survey is intended to be implemented as a face to face interview, but can also be a written survey.  The Epi Center will provide technical assistance with the random sampling, collection methods, and data analysis of the assessment.
