The Dental Support Center (DSC) provides technical support, resources, partnerships and collaboration to Indian Health Service, Tribal and Urban health programs operating within the Oklahoma City Service Area (Oklahoma and portions of Kansas and Texas).  Please contact the Dental Support Center for more information or to arrange for any of the following services:

 

v  In-house oral health staff trainings relating to infection control, Government Performance Results Act, Health Promotion/Disease Prevention (HP/DP) projects, Early Childhood Caries or the Basic Screening Survey.

v  Continuing Education opportunities.

v  Staff recruitment activities.

v  Trainings for non-dental professionals, such as Women Infants and Children,   

 Public Health Nursing and Community Health Representative personnel, in   

 fluoride varnish application and oral health education.

v  Scheduling of Mobile Dental Van services for Head Start, Tribal Day Care and school-based programs.

v  HP/DP mini-grant opportunities.

v  Site visits to Tribal dental programs for infection control and chart reviews, and sealant retention studies.

v  Patient education material for the following subjects:

v  Coordination of research, demonstration projects and studies relating to the diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of oral diseases.

v   Clinical protocol and community project planning templates.

 

FY12 Oral Health Promotion/ Disease Prevention Mini Awards

The following programs recently received $2,000 in DSC mini-grant funding for support of oral health promotion and disease prevention projects: 

 

v  Cherokee Nation, W.W. Hastings dental clinic: for augmentation of their current dental prevention program for the Cherokee Nation Early Start and Head Start programs.

v  Chickasaw Nation Medical Center dental clinic: to implement oral disease prevention activities at the Chickasaw Nation Childcare Center.

v  Northeastern Tribal Health Systems: to expand oral health outreach and education at child care learning centers, tribal health fairs, and community-based events.

v  Kaw Nation/Kanza Dental Clinic: to fund oral health outreach activities for AI/AN children living in Kay County.

v  Claremore Indian Hospital dental clinic: to promote the “Two Minutes Two Times a Day” Ad Council campaign and provide oral health education and supplies to postnatal mothers at the Claremore Indian Hospital.

v  Little Dixie Community Action Agency: to augment the existing Tooth Smart Program by providing oral health education materials and supplies to Head Start and Early Head Start children.

v  Sam Hider Dental Clinic: to increase prevention services among AI/AN special needs children through a school-based outreach program.

v  Osage Nation Head Start: to provide fluoride varnish treatments, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and oral health education to 210 Osage Head Start students. 

v  Absentee Shawnee Dental Clinic: to provide oral health supplies and education through area outreach services.

 

Upcoming Events:

v  The DSC’s quarterly Advisory Council Meeting will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Redbud Conference Room at the IHS Oklahoma City Area Office.  This is an open meeting, and all are encouraged to attend.

v  The next Annual Dental Conference planning committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 1:30 in the Bison Conference Room, Indian Health Service Oklahoma City Area Office.  For more information, please call (405) 951-6031.
