Southern Plains Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center:
Cancer Registry Reporting Enhancement Project
The project staff and partners strive to enhance the completeness of cancer data being reported by the I/T/U facilities to the OSDH Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry (OCCR) by identifying, evaluating and addressing potential gaps in the data reporting activities.
In Year One, through a collaborative partnership with the OSDH Chronic Disease Service and the IHS-OCAO, project staff will perform a linkage match between the IHS OCAO data set and the OCCR data system to assess potential gaps, including completeness of data, in reporting of cancer cases and treatment information from the I/T/Us to the OCCR. This initial systematic linkage may be followed up by a manual audit of randomly selected facilities, at the approval of each facility, if findings warrant more information regarding data collection. The OCCR staff anticipate that the case finding data is fairly complete from the I/T/Us but have questions regarding the completeness of treatment data reporting. It is anticipated that this project may result in a significant improvement in completeness of treatment data from the I/T/Us in which case would benefit the Quality of Care assessment that OCCR is currently performing. In Years Two through Five, project staff and partners will work together to address potential gaps in the data reporting to develop a more efficient process of data reporting from I/T/Us to the OCCR.
